(now Vitebsk, Belarus).
When the Germans invaded Szarkowszcyzna, all its Jews, including Juzefa’s neighbors, the Nomkin family, were forced into the local ghetto. The Ghetto was liquidated in July 1942, but some of the Nomkin family members managed to fled to the woods, which was bombed a couple weeks later.
Juzefa helped her mother to hide the Nomkin family in the attic of the bathhouse, dodging several close calls when interrogated.
The Jews were never found, and were liberated by the Soviet army in July 1944.
Juzefa now lives in Vilna, Lithuania.
Her son is an actor and gave her the DiCaprio posters.
